Otsukimi, Moon Viewing

Sep. 17

Otsukimi, moon viewing, is a traditional custom. This year it falls on Sep. 17 (Tue.). During the Heian period (794-1185), it was considered a party for the nobility to view the beautiful moon, but during the Edo period (1603‒1868), it became an event to give thanks for the harvest.
